Unpermitted Buildings Rampant in East Jakarta

Many buildings violating building permit (IMB) found in East Jakarta. Ironically, the local Building Control (P2B) Sub-Department does not contribute much in controlling those buildings because of limited budget.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations in Ciracas Sub-District, many buildings violating the regulation have not been executed by East Jakarta P2B Sub-Department. Those buildings are located on Jalan Persahabatan RT 010/008, Kelapa Dua Wetan Urban Village, Jalan SMP 147, RT 002/013, Cibubur Urban Village, and ten residences on Jalan Masjid At-Taufiq, RT 011/014, Kelapa Dua Wetan Urban Village.

H Tolib (45), a Cibubur resident, said there are many unpermitted buildings in his area, and confused of the affirmative action absence from related unit. “I am confused why there are many illegal buildings in here, but there are only some shop-houses sealed. Moreover, the seals were gone in a matter of days,” he disclosed, Wednesday (5/28).

Unpermitted Buildings are Still Rampant in Cibubur

Deputy Head of Cibubur Urban Village, M Taufan, acknowledged about the existence of many unpermitted buildings that violate the allotment in his area. “ This area is a water absorption area, so its allotment is only for settlements. Instead, many shop-houses built here ,” he uttered.

According to Taufan, he received many complaints from the residents related to the troubled buildings. “We can only help to send letter to Ciracas Sub-District P2B Section. As the party that has the authority to control it is East Jakarta P2B Sub-Department,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta P2B Sub-Department, Widodo, stated that his party faces difficulties in controlling thousands of troubled buildings in his jurisdiction. “Our budget is very limited. From 1,000 buildings without IMB in East Jakarta, only 200 can be controlled,” he told.

Widodo also revealed that many of those unpermitted buildings are backed up by officials. “Troubled buildings will always exist any time. Moreover, owners of unpermitted buildings cannot be criminalized,” he expressed.
